“And I will give you a new heart, and a new spirit I will put within you. And I will remove the heart of stone from your flesh and give you a heart of flesh”.
Ezekiel 36:26 ESV
At the beginning of the week during my quiet time with the Lord, I asked that I may become more sensitive to the Holy Spirit nudging to do His will. Well, during the middle of the week I was awakened at four o’clock in the morning, and as I laid there, my spirit began to cry out. "Lord make me over! Let my will be Your will, and let my desires become Your desires”. There I felt God speak to my heart, “And I will give you a new heart, and a new spirit I will put within you. And I will remove the heart of stone from your flesh and give you a heart of flesh” (Ezekiel 36.26 ESV). Then in my flesh I found myself saying, do I have to get up to write it down now Lord? Did I not ask for Him to allow me to be sensitive to the nudging of the Holy Spirit at the beginning of the week? Don’t we do that, asks Jesus for things, but we want it on our terms? We don’t want it to inconvenience us (“especially not four o’clock in the morning”). I was reminded in His word, “And Samuel said, “Has the LORD as great delight in burnt offerings and sacrifices, as in obeying the voice of the LORD? Behold, to obey is better than sacrifice, and to listen than the fat of rams” (1Samuel 15:22 ESV).
It is when we obey Him, we are able to have the closeness, and the richness of His presence. I realize that my desire is to please God, no matter what my flesh tells me, “For if you live according to the flesh you will die, but if by the Spirit you put to death the deeds of the body, you will live” (Romans 8:13 ESV). I had to put my flesh to death at four o’clock in the morning by obeying the Spirit. How did I do that? I got up out of my bed when my flesh wanted to sleep, but my spirit, my inner man/woman wanted to spend time in my Father’s presence. Let me encourage you, “Seek the LORD while He may be found; call upon Him while He is near” (Isaiah55:6). Cry out to Jesus to make you over. To make your desires His desires, and wait for Him to show Himself mighty in your life. He promised to remove the heart of stone and give you a heart of flesh that will glorify Him.
Let us pray: Heavenly Father we come before you thanking you first for who You are. For You are God alone and there is none like You. We praise You because You are an awesome God. Thank you for making us over, and for changing our heart of stone to a heart of flesh. Thank You for changing our desires to Yours, and obeying Your voice. Our desire is to please You, and to do Your will. Forgive us when we want to let our flesh rise up. Thank you for the grace to put our flesh to death by obeying Your Word. Thank you Lord for a heart check-up. It is in Jesus's name, Amen.
